Holy Cross Hospital, Kunkuri was established as a small dispensary in the remote tribal area ofJashpur District in Chhattisgarh in the year 1958. Later realizing the need of the people here, the hospital was expanded to a 150 bedded general Hospital, with more facilities to provide health care with love, compassion and commitment.

The Bishop of Raigarh/Ambikapur Diocese, Bishop Severin Oscar S.J., invited the Holy Cross sisters to his diocese. Keeping the motto of our founders ‘The need of the time is the will of God’ in mind, our pioneer sisters,Sr.Dr. HermengildSr. Geroldina and Sr.Hortensia reached Kunkuri on 11th February 1958 to bring, God’s compassionate love to the poor people of this area by venturing into healing ministry. About the place they wrote in the Convent Chronicle: “ A wilderness with jungle outgrowth everywhere, the site is nevertheless a very suitable place for a future hospital, and is within the reach of all the surrounding villages and hamlets, in truth the right place chosen by the Divine Providence for the future work of charity”. From the very next day of sisters’ arrival patients started to flock in to sisters’ residence which made it necessary to build the hospital with bed strength of 100.

The Hospital with Diagnostic centre, male ward ,OPD and OT was constructed by 1962.
With in two years, Medical ward was built.

We believe in healing the total person: physical, psychological, social and spiritual, considering the dignity of the person and the needs of the society. We also believe in giving Humanized, affordable, quality care to all, irrespective of age, sex, caste, creed, socioeconomic status or type of disease. We reach out to the society to give therapeutic care, prevent illness, and promote health. This hospital serves as a referral hospital for District Hospital and other Health facilities.We follow Catholic Hospital Ethics and exercise acceptable standard of care. We believe in guiding and supporting the health care activities of the church and the country. We collaborate with Government and other agencies to bring total healing to the people. We are on the process of getting NABH accreditation.
