(R.A.H.A.) Raigarh Ambikapur Health Association
R.A.H.A. (Raigarh Ambikapur Health Association) : RAHA, A Registered Society (l987), under MP Society registration act 1973, is a non-government, non- profit- making, non-partisan, secular organization, with its Vision: “A wholesome, sustainable, caring, and transformed community of People”. The miserable health condition of the rural poor, and almost total unavailability of health care facilities impelled the missionaries to start a program in 1969, in the undivided Raigarh and Surguja districts of Eastern Madhypradesh (MP). The same Tribal and economically marginalized territory was also the Raigarh-Ambikapur Catholic Diocese. RAHA started as a small but significant, initiative at the patronage of local Bishop and collaboration of Holy Cross HospitalKunkuri, later under the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Charles Van Besouw, to make health care available in the remote , unreachable villages of these districts. The main focus of RAHA was to provide Primary Health care , timely treatment of minor illness, prevention on illness, health promotion and rehabilitation- through the then existing Rural health Centers, with the help of trained voluntary Health workers. Then except for the daring initiative of RAHA, PHC would have been an impossible dream in this remote areas of M.P. RAHA has its Mission:

  • To build up local leadership through value based training
  • To work in partnership with people through an integrated and holistic approach
  • To facilitate preventive curative, and rehabilitative health care services
  • To promote Alternate System of Medicine
  • To collaborate with like-minded individuals, organizations and governments.

RAHA functioned all these years successfully to achieve the objective:
“a comprehensive health Care program with an accent on prevention of sickness, with the participation of the beneficiaries”.

RAHA is always open to new ways of reaching out to people according to their health needs.
